Insurance
At Northern Lights Vision Center, our goal is promote good eye health and enable you to have the clearest vision possible. We accept several types of vision insurance. We like to inform our patients about exam and treatment costs before your appointment so please provide all insurance information when making your appointment AND bring ALL insurance cards with you to your appointment. To see if we work with your insurance carrier or vision care plan, please call for assistance. Our friendly and informed staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Many current vision plans are designed to cover many of the basic vision-related costs, but not all costs associated with eye care. Most plans often require a co-payment for an office appointment as well as additional costs that are covered by the insured patient. The knowledgeable staff at Northern Lights Vision Center is experienced in working with vision insurance providers. We will work directly with you and your vision insurer to submit claims regarding your vision care. We strive to ensure that you understand your insurance coverage and will answer any questions you may have regarding your benefits.
Contact our office at 906.291.2015 ext 1 for the Munising location, ext 2 for the Newberry location or ext 3 to reach St. Ignace to find out if your insurance provider is accepted in our office or for more information about your vision coverage.
We accept most medical insurance policies. However, some policies have restrictions for provider types. We encourage you to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to find out if we are in network and to see if your insurance covers an Optometrist or if you need a referral from your PCP (Primary Care Physician). We most often have no issues with medical insurances but there are a few things you should be aware of.
- It is your responsibility to know if you have a medical deductible to meet at the beginning of each year or not.
- There are Co-pays associated with medical billing, try to find this out ahead of time so that you are not surprised.
Medical insurance can be billed if you are having a medical complaint like:
- Headaches
- Dry eyes
- History of eye issues like glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts
- Blurred vision
Dr. Muth, Dr. Dake and Dr. Jackson can also provide urgent care for most eye emergencies, including:
- Corneal Abrasion (A scratch on your eye)
- Foreign bodies in the eye
- Severe eye pain or redness
- Eye infections (like pink eye)
- Distortion or blurred vision
- Flashes or floaters
- Itchy eyes caused by allergies
Call us first for eye emergencies and avoid the wait and potential high out-of-pocket costs of an Emergency Room visit.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options to employees. Sometimes these are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSA's can typically be used in conjunction with any vision insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.
Other Payment Options
Our optometry staff understands that cost is a concern when evaluating vision care providers. We do not want cost to be an obstacle to maintaining proper eye health and good vision. We accept various forms of payment. At Northern Lights Vision Center, we accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and CareCredit® .
